if there are a bunch of people who use to work construction who are currently unemployed because construction pretty much came to a full stop as soon as the great recession happened

and there are:

a bunch of people* in Oklahoma who need their homes rebuilt
those same people plus the whole midwest who need tornado shelters

so why don’t we fix this and give the construction people the jobs they need and people in the midwest the homes and shelters for future safety they need? does this not seem like the obvious solution to anyone else?

*applies to all people affected by both natural and unnatural disasters

So, in the middle of everything today, we ran across a hellaciously distressed momma mallard and a bunch of her baby ducks that had fallen down a sewer grate. Another guy was already trying to fish them out, so my friend and I called animal control before we tried to fish the rest of them out. When Animal Control got there, we had all of them out and the mother duck quacking very happily. I was surprised - none of us got snapped at or hurt. I was even holding onto a bag at one point that had all of them in it and she just watched me.

I love how the duck is perched on the guy’s butt

There is no shortage of talented actors of South Asian descent whether from within the United States, from the UK, or Bollywood—and many of them even have the last name of Khan.

With Star Trek Into Darkness the name “Khan” is once again stigmatized as antagonistic, but the actors named Khan, the Khans of the world, and those who look like Khans once again have no voice about how they are represented in American media.

If you’re an award winning actor named Khan, you will still get stopped and humiliated at the airport. When that rare character in American media finally shows up sharing your name, he will be played by a white British man. That actor will wear your name for one movie and sneer and strut to great critical acclaim. You will wear your racialized name, your skin color, and hope you don’t get detained another time.

there are times that someone within an organization or institution makes a really shitty decision about direction. it can be software used, management strategies/practices, or whatever else that many future decisions about direction will be based on and around. so all those future changes aren’t really changes because the original shitty decision about direction has created this framework of crap within which the organization or institution must now (attempt to) function. this means that organizations are not functioning at full capacity because the goals being set are limited by a framework of crap and a culture tainted by the fear of veering from shitty plans.

so sometimes we need to smash the existing systems and institutions to bits and start all over. fuck the frameworks and original decisions about direction. we must view the frameworks of crap as reductions in our efficiency and capacity to reach real, innovative goals.

in essence: to achieve excellence, we’ve got to fuck some shit up and start anew.
