today is the last day of summer
which means I start grad school tomorrow. I can sense an anxiety attack coming on so I think I’ll just spend the rest of today drinking beer and pretending I’m not such a shy and awkward person.

you find out that you have both been not-so-secretly saving up money to go on a little anniversary trip. this means that my $400 saved plus his $450 saved equals a nicer trip and I can use some of my $ to buy a pair of boots to wear on it! now the question is: do we go stay in a cabin in Shenandoah for a weekend (more expensive, shorter trip, but romantic and woodsy) or make a road trip to Philly...

this Californian in DC does not understand this tropical storm stuff and needs your assistance. when they say “extremely high risk” of hurricane hitting here, does that mean it will be like super strong winds and rain and all that frightening shit? or does it mean we should just be prepared to have the power go out for a little while?

what the fuck just happened?
I was told there were no earthquakes here. I’m from CA, was born on the San Andreas fault, and have NEVER in my life felt shaking that strong.

fishkeeper replied to your post: I really want it to be October NOOO. Then we would skip my birthday. So only if you agree to celebrate my birthday in October. Oh alright I’ll give back September, but only because I love you dearly. See, Aaron. I love you so much I gave you your birth month back AND gave you my favorite gif.

ailanthusaltissima replied to your post: I really want it to be October No! I need all of football season dammit! And I need the month to write a grant. I will compromise, though - let’s make October twice as long so I can get football AND grant writing. Only if it means we can have 2 Halloweens.

I really want it to be October
October has awesome fall weather, fall fashion colors, pretty fall leaves, and pumpkin patches. Pumpkin patches and pumpkin festivals are the greatest. I love buying all the inexpensive homemade pumpkin edibles and then buying a small pumpkin myself to take home and make into soup. And Dogfish Head brewery makes their Punkin’ Ale and it is seriously the beer of the gods.  Can we just skip...

guerrillamamamedicine: We live in an age of the superlatives as well, ironically being touted as the Age of Austerity by the state-capitalist oligarchs. But the superlative qualities of our age mark a world in decline. Consider some of our superlative achievements: Scientists have renamed this era the Anthropocene, to denote the unprecedented impact humans are having on the planet, an impact...

I'm that creepy old person now, aren't I?
How weird would it be if I just walked into some ballet studio out here and demanded to be Giselle? Giselle, the girl who dies really young and then comes back as a ghost in a totally badass dress with whispy things to protect her lover from the wilies.  I’m just a 24 year old out-of-shape former ballerina with a dream, right? They’d have to let me at least try the dress on.

kinda drunk and getting emotional
Once upon a time I was a ballerina. I loved it. I loved how proud of myself I was when I finally completed a triple pirouette on pointe without chickening out. I loved how beautiful I felt when I’d learned to panche and would look at the gorgeous long lines of my body in the mirror.  I miss the feel of breaking in a new pair of pointe shoes. I miss how those shoes felt right before they...
